I think the trick to stainless steel is that it has to be primed. The first time you drink or eat from a porous metal like steel or titanium, it will taste like metal. Eventually, the metal will take on the taste of the items you put into it.After reading the complaints about these glasses having a metallic taste, I bought just one to test.I 'wasted' a glass of Two-Buck-Chuck and let it sit it the glass for about 24 hours, then rinsed and dried it before packing it. (I did not use soap on it.)A set of four, heavy-weight glass wine goblets cost about the same as this. I brought both the GSI steel wine glass and the glass wine goblets (Libby Catawba Footed Goblet) on a car-camping trip for comparison. After having been primed, I did not taste any difference between the GSI wine glass and the glass wine goblet. The GSI wine glass is very light weight and the stem unscrews then snaps securely into the cup so that it packs small and other small things can be stored in it.The GSI wine glass is theoretically unbreakable, although I'm sure I'll end up finding a way to break it someday. The glass wine goblets did not break when dropped on the ground but they are very heavy and take up a lot of space.Stainless Steel would not have to be re-primed when going from white wine to red wine but it might need to be re-primed when going from red back to white.I think that I will eventually get a full set of these and keep the goblets for home use.
