Google ACS712 to get specs and example circuits. This board has an ACS712T 5A hall-effect current sensor chip and a red LED power indicator.

These units aren't what one expects. They measure current from 0 to 5 amps, true, but comes without documentation. One must go online to download the Allegro chip documentation for this unit. The output will swing between 0 and 5 volts Dc which is good for mating with Adurinolike microprocessors with a 0 to 5 volt analog input. The problem with these is that they set 0 Amps at 2,5 volts Dc, thus allowing for both negative and positive currents. I would much rather see the current swing between 0 and 5 volts for positive currents, giving a 1 volt per Amp sensitivity. The actual sensitivity is typically 185 mV/Amp, meaning for full scale current of 5 Amps, the output will vary on volt off of 2.5 Vtdc. Not much to work with with an 8 bit A/D of the Adurino. I haven't played with it yet, but plan to soon. More to come.
