I bought the 8lb/3.6kg to split 30cm to 40cm unseasoned walnut logs. I'm fit and young so the extra weight was not a problem. Ignore the reveiws where people say the axe needs sharpening. This kind of axe splits logs with force, not sharpness. Worked well chopping up all these logs without getting stuck (see my photos). Only used it once but looks like it will last for years. I would recommend that beginners watch how to videos on YouTube before using the axe

I think a lot of reviewers must be using this badly or not removing the plastic blade guard. It splits big logs with ease and as long as you are strong enough to lift it then there is no effort required on the ‘downswing’. Unless you need to chop continuously this is by far the best and cheapest way to chop logs
