I got this specifically for use on a Gretsch Cat Club 14x5 snare drum. I was having real trouble getting it to tune up and sound the way *I* wanted it to sound live. I got this along with the Diplomat coated batter and, after a great deal of trial and error, which is to be expected, this is GREAT. I know it won't last as long as an Ambassador hazy, but the snare response is AWESOME that Cat Club sounds fantastic with these heads. All you out there who say you can't tune up a Cat Club snare drum.. you can.. with Diplomat heads. Well... *I* can. :)

First of all this head was the answer to all my problems. I put this head on my Pearl 6.5 Aluminum Sensitone snare with an Ambassador batter head. Puresound Custom 20 strand snares tuned to a medium high setting.I tune my Tom's at a medium low tuning. I prefer my Tom's to sing open. . I tried higher and lower Resonant tunings but to no avail. Buuuzzzzz.....My tom sizes are 8-10-12-14. Needless to say had a serious symphonic buzz that drove me crazy. No amount of tuning really helped. I understand that it's a natural thing for snare buzz but this was out of hand.So I originally had the Ambassador snare side tuned low and high. However the higher I got. The more I noticed my snare sounding choked. So I bought a drum dial. I couldn't get the snare side passed 80 before it choked out and rang really bad. But snare symphonic buzz would general fade. But then the snare sounded like crap!So I ordered the Diplomat. And we'll! It's not perfect. But let's just say my snare never sounded better. No moon gel. Very mild musical ring. And less symphonic buzz. Much less! The drum is more articulate and more sensitive ghost notes. Yet I can still tune it to were it hits you in the gut. I also found I can loosen my strainer which in turn sounds better as I am not choking the drum and allowing the shell to breath while still having the snares sing. There is alot of misinformation about these heads. It's 2mil. It's very thin. A thinner resonant head has less sustain / resonants but brings out more shell without the annoying overtone ring. Thick heads give more ring. Thicker heads create more resonants. Longer sustain. More snare buzz.I have tried so many batter snare heads.. All sorts of controlled sound heads. And then one day bought an Ambassador. I was stunned how good it sounded. The tone was like the tone all snares should sound like. But the ring from the drum was a bit too much. As I grow as a drummer. I've learned how important and musical ring is. Some drums have more or less. I really liked my drum. But I still wAnt happy and a small piece of moon gel was the answer. Until I tried the Diplomat. It's the best choice in drum heads I've ever made.Try one.
