My wife and I decided to strip back the numerous layers of paint off the bannister and staircase as part of a hallway/landing makeover.My wife had been using a hot air gun when she hit some oldish looking paint. I ordered this kit to perform a quick test and our fears were confirmed - lead paint. There’s no denying that the test shows positive results easily, turning the swab a dark red colour when it detects lead.It’s easy to use - a few drops of the agent on a cotton swab and you’re good to go. The bottle contains a chart showing the levels of lead present too.Good value for money, especially when you consider the safety around lead in the home.It’s also worth noting the reactive agent is quite smelly, kind of like a strong vinegar.

Tried it on known paint containing lead, no reaction. Rubbed right into the 70 year old paint, still nothing.
