Its important to keep in mind this is a really old ink, its been around a really long time, over 100 years I think.

Ink is smooth, dark and a bit thick. takes a little time to dry, but as compared to other inks I have, this ink is the darkest. Its slightly darker than sailor black ink. Much darker than pilot black ink. Its tone is a bit warmer side. Although it is available in 10ml and 30ml options, this 100ml is quite economic. Cleaning the ink is also easier and I did not found any issue related to flow yet. I have used this ink in Lamy studio fine gold nib and parker frontier medium nib and its a bit lighter with fine nibs but with medium nib it really gives the true color which is dark black. I found this ink better than, pilot black , Montverde black but I liked the sailor black ink in terms of flow. All in all, if dark color is your choise, aprt from noodler's heart of darkness and platinum carbon black, this ink is equally dark as Aurora black.

Perle Noire is a nice black ink and works well in most all my pens. I love the giant bottles I can burn through a 30ml bottle in a week or two. I am still on the fence if this is my favorite black ink because I think Diamine Jet Black performs better on ALL types of paper. The Herbin can be more troublesome on cheaper papers.

Nice black effect, and flows well through my fountain pens. Gives everyday calligraphy a sweet clear look. Some thinner papers show bleedthrough but my acid test is always Moleskin paper - bleedthrough mostly ignorable but there is a little. With thicker papers looks very fine. Don't forget to rinse out your pens especially when changing inks!
