I really enjoyed this novel. Although aimed at YA readers, this is suitable for any age group - even pensioners like myself! It goes without saying that Markus Zusak is a terrific author (like many others, I loved The Book Thief). I am the messenger is an easy read, yet it handles some serious subjects like self esteem, moral dilemmas, the trials and tribulations within families, and the importance of friendship etc. At the centre of this story is the likeable character of Ed Kennedy, a 19 year old taxi driver who lives and works in a small Australian town, though this could easily be an American location because very few references are made to the Australian way of life.In the opening chapter we are introduced to Ed Kennedy who is inside a bank when a couple of individuals burst into the building brandishing guns with the intention of robbing the place. Ed kind of inadvertently ends up a hero as he prevents the bad guys getting away. Shortly after this incident Ed starts receiving playing cards which contain cryptic messages - deciphering them leads Ed to encountering various strangers who he helps out. For sometime, Ed has considered himself an ordinary individual, someone who doesn’t get noticed, someone who hasn’t got much to offer the world. However, once he starts taking on the role of ‘The Messenger’ he realises that he is capable of making an important, worthwhile contribution to people’s lives. As time goes by, he gets more confident in his abilities to interact with his fellow human beings and realises that by helping others by his good deeds not only makes him feel good but also gives a purpose to his life. Overall, I thought this novel had a nice mix of poignant moments, thrills, humour, and a touch of quirky romance which was enough to keep me turning those pages - oh, and it also has a very satisfactory ending! This is a book I highly recommend folks.📖 + 📚 = 😊

Not as good as The book thief, you can put it down and come back later, good story none the less.

I loved the book thief and this novel is not as good as it. It has a great plot, well drafted characters, beautiful lines and A wonderful message, but I found the ending forced.

A pesar de estar en inglés su lectura es muy compresible, obviamente hay muchas palabras que seguramente no vayas a entender, pero se sacan fácilmente por el contexto. Por todo lo demás, el libro es muy bueno, con una historia interesante que te mantiene con intriga en todo momento.

El libro es muy bueno. A ratos se hace un poco infantil, no deja de ser un libro para adolescentes/jovenes. No llega ni de lejos a La Ladrona de Libros, pero es una novela interesante y nada desdeñable.

Markus Zusak ist ein großartiger Autor. Mein erstes Buch von ihm war "Die Bücherdiebin", welches schlicht ergreifend, erschütternt, rührend, sogar humorvoll und nachdenklich ist. "I Am the Messanger" ist ebenfalls ein einzigeartiges Leseerlebnis. Es ist eine einfache, unschuldig wirkende Geschichte, die Zusak mit ganz viel Können geschrieben hat.Ed isr ein armer Mann mit einfachen Leben. Er spielt gerne Karten und hat einen witzigen Hund. Alles ändert sich, als er eine Spielkarte in der Post erhält. Er besucht die Adressen auf der Karte und wird der "Messanger". Er überbringt den Menschen eine Nachricht, die ihr Leben verändern wird. Er weiß nicht, warum er so handelt wie er handelt oder wer ihn dazu bringt, aber durch seine Besuche deckt er viele Geheimnisse und schreckliche Wahrheiten seiner Mitbürger auf. Was die Nachricht genau ist, sage ich an dieser Stelle nicht, um nicht zu viel zu verraten.
