They are not very comfortable at the top where the leg bends. The design is not ideal. But the sole bends well, is not too narrow for little feet.

Our 2 1/2 year old daughter needed solid shoes with a solid back to support her ankles. The back doesn't go too high but the shoes are sturdy and they can go in the water. My daughter loves her "starfish" shoes and she wears them everyday.The only thing = watch out because tiny toes can get stuck in the sides when you put them on !
