Basically, you can't beat these Hal Leonard play along books. The kids have fun with them, and it breaks the monotony of method books and dry (or a little dry) etude books. Since I have introduced this series to my students, they seem to be enjoying them - one of my students said that he ends up humming his assigned piece all day. High praise I think! Anyway, these "easy classics" are surely more playable than the regular Hal Leonard play alongs. There is no room for improvising, and for my students anyway, that is a good thing. The real challenge of these books for junior high students is keeping up with the tempo that is set for each song. But the music is very enjoyable, and if the kids are having a good time and practicing a bit more, that is a great thing!
