Smart features are very basic but they work. Supports VLANs with no issues, but I've seen much better managed switch UIs from brands in the same price bracket like TP-Link.You unfortunately need to install their software to set it up initially because it won't find an address automatically via DHCP, and a static IP isn't listed anywhere on the product, packaging, or documentation. Their software will scan your network to find the device and do initial configuration. But then you can uninstall the software and never use it again. Was miffed about that, I'd much rather connect to it directly via a web browser the first time I set it up, and not have to install junkware just to get it usable out of the box.Was mostly interested in the PoE passthrough though, as it's a very hard feature to find in this price range. I wanted to power this switch from my main PoE switch AND then power a wireless access point, without using an additional AC adapter for either this switch or the access point. This did the trick perfectly, so if you have that particular need, this will do the job great. I could see this as being useful if you have a central PoE switch, and need to power a bunch of IP cameras somewhere remotely away from your main networking gear. Just be aware of the maximum power budget if you do that though, it probably can't power too many cameras at once if its being powered over PoE itself.

This is a good switch it does what it says and its POE. (i have it in a ceiling void with an AP903 off a camera POE feed) there is nothing bad to say about it it works at 1Gb with no problems. however it wont respond to a who has 192.168... this for the most part will not bother anybody.

Did not come with a UK plug but an eu plug, why.Shame as perfect product otherwise, you won’t get a smaller simple POE switch.Buy buy buy

[UPDATE 17 July 2017 The switch has been in continuous use for nearly two months now. There have been no issues at all. The camera software hasn't reported any dropouts. I haven't even had to turn it off & on again. Original review follows]This is my initial review for the DES-1008PA as it was only delivered today, I will update it in a couple of months to say how things have gone or sooner if I encounter a problem. My existing Power Over Ethernet (POE) switch had started to become erratic so I decided to replace. I need to power 2 Hikvision CCTV cameras. The cost of dedicated IEEE 802.3af POE injectors is such that a buying a couple of them costs about as much as the switch but with the switch I have two spare POE ports in case I decide to add another camera (or two).Although this is an 8 port switch, only the first 4 ports actually provide POE and each one is limited to 15.4 Watts. This should be enough for most POE devices but you should probably check the power consumption of your devices to be on the safe side. The Amazon description says that there is a power budget of 100W but this is incorrect as the maximum power output from all the ports is stated in the manual as 58 Watts. The power supply is rated at 51V, 1.25A which is just under 64 Watts so even if the switch could deliver 100W, the power supply wouldn't allow it.Also this is a Fast Ethernet switch ie each port supports a maximum speed of 100Mbps Half Duplex or 200Mbps Full Duplex. By modern standards, this is quite slow as most current switches now support speeds of 1Gbps (1000Mbps) per port. In my case, this is not an issue as each camera is limited to 10Mbps so well within the limits of Fast Ethernet. The switch is actually quite small at 15cm x 8.5cm. It uses an external 51V power supply and mine was delivered with both a 3 pin UK mains lead and a 2 pin 'Euro' mains lead. There is no setting up to speak of. Just plug the mains lead into the power supply and plug the DC output lead into the port at the back of the switch. Connect your network cables and you are up & running. The network cables plug in at the back and there are lights on the front to show when a port is active and whether the port is supplying POE power (note that the picture shown in the Amazon description incorrectly shows an LED indicator for 100Mbps operation). So far, I have had no issues. The cameras started up normally and there have been no drop outs. However, as I said at the beginning, it is very early days so I will report back in a couple of months (or sooner if I encounter a problem).
