Works fine and a nice gift for family and friends

This gadget enables you to transmit a HDMI signal up to 1080p through a network cable and can be very useful in situations where a very long extension is required since this supports up to 50m Cat5e/6 cables. The longest cable I had to test with was 10m Cat6 and it worked flawlessly, I also had no problems with some shorter length Cat5e cables of which I have quite a few up to 5m in length, and even a very old 3m Cat5 cable, that I remember splicing together myself nearly two decades ago, worked fairly well, though it's not recommended and if you do use such a cable you'll probably get the dots and lines interference glitches that I saw, but it was fun to know even such an old cable can carry these HDMI digital signals.(incidentally, my Windows 10 computer automatically switches audio to the HDMI output (MACROSILICON Intel Display Audio) so if you're wondering why the computer is suddenly mute you need to change the sound output back to the default in Windows Sound Settings)In addition to carrying the HDMI signal this device also is supposed to allow you to connect a keyboard and mouse via USB to the "remote" monitor via a KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse) port, but the input USB port is Type-A so to connect it to your computer it seems that you need a Type-A to Type-A cable which is very unusual, normally you have Type-B to Type-A like the old printer cables etc The reason such cables are rare is that they are unsafe and you can easily damage your equipment connecting two Type-A ports together. However I do have such a cable so tried connecting the transmitter to my computer and it did recognise it. But first time I couldn't get a remote keyboard or mouse to work and then the remote display went blank and wouldn't come back on no matter what I tried. So I had to unplug everything and try again and second time it did work, just about. The remote keyboard and mouse were recognised but the keyboard seemed stuck on auto-repeat and the mouse was very slow and jerky. I gave up in the end, not being happy to have a type-A to type-A cable connected to my computer anyway.A couple of other grumbles:I was a bit surprised that BOTH the transmitter and receiver need powering via a 5V adapter, in another device like this that I tested only one side needed power and the other side used POE (power over ethernet) via the network cable, which is quite a bit more convenient. In fact I could just power that extender via one cable from a USB port on the remote monitor (using a USB to 5V jack adapter), I wish they would use micro-USB or USB-C for power on these extenders, the cables are easy to find and you don't have to rely on the two provided 5V DC adaptors, which are quite bulky to carry around if you regularly need to travel with this equipmentAlso I did have some problems getting the default resolution correct when extending (rather than duplicating) my Windows Desktop to another display with different resolution (1280x1024) using this extender but this was with a quite old monitor, my newer one worked fine @1920x1080, the manual says to toggle the "EDID" switch on the transmitter to get better resolutions but in this case it didn't help, it could only manage 1080p or 720p.It's a shame there are these issue sinces there is no doubt that an extender like this can be very useful in certain situations especially if you can get the remote keyboard and mouse working for easier interaction with a remote monitor (especially good for a media centre) - you may have better luck than me.

The HDMI USB KVM Extender has been a useful tool in extending my HDMI signal over long distances without any loss in quality. The local output option is convenient for monitoring the remote display. The ability to control keyboard and mouse remotely is efficient for various applications. While it serves its purpose well, a more streamlined setup process would enhance its overall user experience.
