Extroadinary true story. Shocking what goes on in the world of shipping and insurance.

Well written like a novel, making of the drama a piece of investigation and intrigue. Great reading to get a reality check of the sea merchant business

Honestly, when I first opened the book, my heart sank - the text is small and dense (and it’s not a thin book!) so I was worried this would be a slog. However, I was very wrong!! Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I hadn’t heard the story before, even in outline so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The book covers it incredibly well. It somehow manages to include the right about of detail without ever been boring and explains how things work (whether it be around the insurance aspects or shipping) without being too ‘textbook’.The story itself is interesting, to the extent of sometimes forgetting this is a true story not a work of fiction.I work in finance so was worried it may be a little too niche a story or specific a subject matter. Honestly it wasn’t. It’s something different, interesting and very well done. There isn’t much more I can say except that I would really recommend this book. (Unless maybe you’re on the cusp of needing reading glasses and in denial about it!!)

Gripping narrative about how Lloyds and maritime world functions with eyes on easy money forgetting the lives of ordinary humans.Don’t billionaires have no qualms about making more money by employing laborers with less pay from India, Indonesia and Philippines who work for long hours without caring even their welfare and safety? It is astounding that the shipping industry is structured through tax havens and multilayered corporate shell companies to claim ignorance, diffuse responsibility and evade tax and regulatory obligations. The book is worth the candle.

For me the most important thing I’ve learned with this book was the notion of how the maritime and insurance markets work, and a little about lawers strategies in big cases. What can I say as a resume is that the time and money expended in this book worth.(Ps: Sorry by the bad english but I’m a brazilian.)
