This is an RJ45 to DB25 adapter, presumably for RS232 over structured cabling, since it claims null modem over RJ45 in the product listing. As there is no information on the manufacturers web site, I pinned it out and the cabling is as follows:RJ45 pin -> DB25 pin -> function1 -> 2 -> TXD2 -> 3 -> RXD3 -> 4 -> RTS4 -> 5 -> CTS5 -> 7 -> GND6 -> 8 -> DCD7 -> 15 -> TCK8 -> 17 -> RCKObviously an 8 pin RJ45 cannot carry all 25 pins of a DB25, so it would be expected that standard RS232 pins would be mapped, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 6, 8, 20, particularly as the listing claims null modem is supported. However, as can be seen, the only connections are for TXD/RXD and RTS/CTS, plus Ground and two unknown pins, TCK/RCK are carried along with DCD.DSR, DTR and RI are not mapped at all, thus all hardware handshake pins are not mapped and this is therefore not a full null modem pinout. It will work with RTS/CTS signalling but not DTR/DSR/DCD signalling.Additionally, two of these adapters are required and at £12.39 each, I'd probably go to Black Box and get their adapters instead, they can be mapped to the required DB25 pins. This adapter is therefore not recommended if you need more than RTS/CTS handshaking.

I wanted this adapter to use on my retro computers to simplify the cabling between them. Unfortunately, I could not get them to talk to each other. After reading Tim C's detailed review I can now see why - thank you. If you want to use this adapter I would highly advise you to read it first!I have given it two stars as it is well-made, it's just a shame it is incorrectly described.
