I love how this book doesn't waste time with the absolute basics of reading music. The videos are a helpful tool in regards to holding the cello, bowing, etc. I would have liked if the song recordings were set to a performance click track and not just a metranome count in. I would recommend this book to older beginners or students who already read music.

This is a great way to learn an instrument. The instructions are easy to follow.

I am 80 years old and I just began to learn to play the cello. The book is very good. My advise is to buy also other books for beginners. Use them all and you get the best possible lessons.

I have to agree with previous review this is a great book for teaching yourself the cello. I looked at several when deciding to teach myself (having never played a stringed instrument before) but most were either too difficult for a beginner or just about playing on open strings which you get past as soon as you learn where to put the tape for first position finger placements.I am only up to chapter 3 so far after a few months but already know several scales and on my second etude so definitely seeing progress, I use this in conjunction with Cello coach app to tell me when I play scales in tune. Can't recommend this book enough.
