I like a drinking through a straw, but know that the plastic ones are bad news ecologically.I usually use straw straws [far left picture picture #8] which was something we did on the farm when younger, or waxed paper ones [far left picture #7]. The problem with straw straws is that you can't suck up anything more viscous than water, and paper ones go soft after a while in your drink. I tried metal straws but they clattered against my teeth & had a horrible metallic taste that made me ill.So I was excited to try these bamboo straws with cleaning brush from the KitchenCraft Store. They come in a recyclable cardboard box so easy to wrap if you want to gift them to someone, there are 10 in a box & you get a little wire & plastic bristle cleaning brush. I'd advise reaming them out with the brush before washing as there was some dust left over from where they'd drilled through the bamboo. A washing will also help take away any production waste left on them and some of the bamboo smell. I always find bamboo has a slightly musky, damp wood smell. The straws are 19cm/7½" long [The cleaning brush is 16½cm/6½" long so you'll have to clean from both ends], so the straws are about the same length as a standard straw. This means they'll fit most glasses & cups but may get a little out of their depth in a tall pint glass. After a couple of uses the bamboo smell goes away & their relatively large bore means that you can drink some of the thinner smoothies... though "bubble tea" aficionados may have to look elsewhere for a straw capable of getting the tapioca balls out of their glass. The straws are nice & strong so unless you have teeth like a beaver you shouldn't be able to chew up the ends. 🤓They wash up well, I just clean them out in warm soapy water before rinsing them & air dry them before storing away. If you drink things like beetroot juice the straws may get stained purple though. At £7.69 for a set of ten they work out to about 77p a straw [if you count the brush as free] so good value for money, you'll quickly recoup that on disposable straws & they're better for the environment. Plus with some bamboos growing up to 35" to 40"/89cm to 1.01m a day that's up to 5 straws a day from one plant! 😁

These set of 10 bamboo strews come with 2 cleaning brushes and are 19cm. On inspecting the straws some of the holes are different sizes and if you want to drink a thick milkshake they are hard work to use. Drinking water or juices there fine to use and I the straws made no difference to the drinks taste. I would have liked them to have come with a carry case so they can be used wile out and about. At the time of me writing my review they are £3.50 which is really cheap. The only other thing I would say I'm not to sure of if they discolour.

Each measures around 19 cm in length, and, as you might expect with bamboo, the internal diameter varies. They are not particularly elegant looking in a drink and, being rigid, it is also a difficult habit to get out of expecting them to bend!'Hand wash only', I received 2 cleaning brushes with my box of 10, but I still worry if the straws are properly clean right the way through, even after rinsing well with clear cold water. Not for me & mine...sorry.[6 images attached]

I’m trying to be more eco friendly and wanted to cut down on single use and plastic straws in my household. I was hoping these straws would be a good alternative but unfortunately, they’re just not for me. The quality isn’t great. Of course natural straws are all different sizes and I’m fine with that but the finish isn’t great, leaving a bit of splintering at the start and end of these. I washed them, immediately before use as you would anything and I’m disappointed they mush be hand washed. They can’t hold up in the dishwasher like most natural wood products can’t but it’s a pain for a busy mummy. All in all, the hand washing isn’t the deal breaker for me, but after leaving one of the straws in my water for a little bit, I did notice a strange taste. It’s off putting for me and left me feeling like they aren’t a good product. It also made me feel like I wouldn’t want any kids to use them as I’m not sure exactly what the taste was. Hopefully it was just due to the natural flavour of the wood, but I’m not sure. Overall I’m not impressed with these straws and would not recommend them.

These straws are a great alternative to plastic straws as they’re reusable and made of bamboo. They are very smooth and feel super normal in your mouth. The straws come with a cleaning utensil which goes all the way through the straws so you can easily clean them well. The straws are about the same size as a plastic straw but the bamboo is much thicker than plastic so the hole in the middle where the drink comes through is much smaller. This can be a bit annoying at first but you get used to it.
