This review is for the item listed as "STATIONERY ISLAND Sketch Book A5 200GSM 100 Pages (50 Sheets) Sketch Pad Art Drawing Paper Spiral Bound Drawing Painting Sketchbook for Artists and Professionals"It's currently available on Amazon for £9.99 and I received one free so I can give an impartial review under the Vine programme.It's a lovely quality sketch book. It feels and looks premium.The paper is of course the important thing, and it's nice, lightly textured and pure white. The paper is nice and thick - it's labelled 200gsm and I don't doubt that.The advert listing '100 pages' is disingenous at best - there are 50 pages. And of course those pages have two sides. But there's still 50 pages!Worth noting is that the pages have micro perforations at the top for easy removal when needed.I can't fault the quality of this pad and would happily buy again. I feel the current price of £9.99 compares poorly to others on the market, but I cannot compare quality against those of course.

I got the A4 version of this sketch book which is spiral bound along the top (thin) edge of the paper. It's also perforated so if you tear it off you can get a straight line and don't have a lot of messy stubs where the ring binding goes, that you have to cut off with scissors.The paper is nice and thick, and the covers are thick enough to provide protection and a good stiff surface while you're drawing. There's a leaf at the front that looks like racing paper but has the company's branding on it and lots of little sketch drawings of fungi, berries and woodland items.Overall it seems like a really good quality sketch book, probably suitable for precocious artists who are younger but getting good, or for those a bit older and about to do GCSE for art. I don't think you'll disappoint anyone if you get this.The paper is acid free, natural white, 200 gsm and they state that it's 'ideal for dry sketches' which suggests paint and water colour wouldn't be your choices with this but the description does list those. I don't know enough about sketching paper to be sure if that matters and I haven't done anything with watercolour for several decades - just double check what people use if you are considering that because they've got contradictory info on the product and their description of it for the page here.

This is a spiral bound sketch pad in an A4 size, which arrives in cellophane wrapping.I really like this. It has a nice and sturdy feel to it, with a proper hard front and back cover, and a decent spiral binding. The pages are a reasonably crisp white, feel heavier than 200gsm, and have a good level of tooth to them. They are perforated at the top, which does leave a cleaner finish than tearing them away from the spiral. The pages accept pencil, pastels, and ink with no issues, and I was able to easily create smudged effects and lift out sections using an eraser.The advertising blurb says that this can be used for painting, and it can, but it will buckle if too much water is used; you’re not going to get the same results as an expensive watercolour paper. I like to do messy journal sheets, so I threw masses of inks and water at it, including drying in between layers with a heat gun, and although it did buckle, it didn’t break down, and it did flatten down enough for me to be able to stamp on it and use texture paste, so that’s a result as far as I’m concerned.At the time of writing this review, the cost is £10.99, with a potential 15% off voucher, and it’s worth it. Happy to recommend.
